I’m a junior at Providence College, and I am currently studying abroad in Florence, Italy! I was excited to learn about the incredible work being done by the Healing Photo Art Foundation, and am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer for such an inspiring organization. As someone who has always loved both nature and photography, I was excited to support the Foundation’s mission to bring comfort to patients and families in hospitals through donated artwork and photographs. After working with this organization now for several months, I can see not only the inspiring and generous work that they do, but also the direct positive impact it has on people around the world. Many thanks to Sydney Zeng, our new Contributing Photographer!

Sydney comments, “Volunteering with Elaine at Healing Art Photography has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. Elaine leads with such compassion, purpose, and authenticity that it’s impossible not to feel inspired by the work she does. Being part of her mission to bring art and life back into hospitals has shown me how deeply creativity can support healing. It has been moving to see how something as simple as a photograph can change the feeling of a room and offer comfort to patients and their families. Contributing my time and my photography to this work has meant a lot to me, and I truly hope my photos can find their way onto more hospital walls in the future. I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned from Elaine and for the chance to be part of something that helps people feel more grounded, seen, and hopeful during difficult moments.”

Jesseca comments, “My name is Jesseca Chau and it has been wonderful volunteering with the Foundation for Photo/Art in Hospitals. With my current time studying abroad in Italy as a senior student, I desire to give back to the community. The foundation is great combining all aspects of giving through photography and nature to enrich patient’s mental health in hospitals. I was able to donate a floral photo to a hospital in Italy with more nature photos to come. It was a pleasure meeting Elaine, the founder of the foundation and our intern team. Through many adventures together and giving back to society improving the wellness of others, I am extremely grateful for this experience.”

Welcome to our new Contributing Photographer, Cristina Brizi!

Cristina comments, “I am proud to be part of Elaine’s Healing Photo Art project. For me, photography is a silent narrative that connects people through invisible words. Within spaces of care, the delicacy of a flower, the gentle curves of a landscape, or the power of a sea wave are transformed into ever-new emotions, because the gaze — and the heart — of each observer is always new.”

Welcome to our new Contributing Photographer, Richard Myers!

Richard comments, “Having spent most of my work-a-day life in medical schools and other assorted hospitals, it was a very comforting diversion for patients and staff to lock in on a beautiful photographic scene and “leave” the immediate environment behind for the moment.
Elaine and the HEALING PHOTO ARTS, are on the leading edge of what makes healing establishments much more therapeutic and with better outcomes by helping to reduce the often high stress and anxious situations in those settings.
I am blessed to be able to continue to be part of healing environments now through my photographic contributions. I cannot say enough about the stable of beautiful and often relaxing images provided by the healing photo art foundation. No medical setting should be without the beautiful healing influence of these photographs.”

Dr. Ladona Tornabene — educator, artist, and wellness advocate — beautifully blends health, nature, and creativity in her work. While exploring photography as a form of healing, she met Elaine, founder of Healing Photo Art (healingphotoart.org), which deepened her belief in the power of visual art to support mental and physical well-being. She now serves on the International Board of Advisors for the Healing Photo Art Foundation. She also discovered the science behind art’s impact on the brain through the book Your Brain on Art. These experiences deepened her understanding of how creativity can nourish mental and physical well-being. Her exhibit at the Johnson Heritage Post in Grand Marais, Minnesota (March 28th – April 20th, 2025) highlighted this connection, featuring close-up images of local trails. It features close-up nature photography designed not just to be seen, but felt. Through each image, she hopes to evoke emotion, presence, and a connection to the outdoors. As well as to inspire mindfulness and exploration. She also co-authored Gentle Hikes of Minnesota’s North Shore, a guide to make nature more accessible for all. Discover how art can be a path to healing and connection.

Welcome to Uwe Hahn, our new Contributing Photographer!

Uwe comments, “Hello! My name is Uwe Hahn, and I discovered the Healing Photo Art website more by chance. I’m already retired, but I spend some of my free time on a cancer ward at a local hospital reading stories to sick children. Simply to distract them from the stressful daily hospital routine for a while. I know how important these things are for the healing process. When I found this website, I was immediately fascinated by the concept. And since I also enjoy photography, I thought it would be a good idea to join the website as a contributing photographer. I contacted Elaine and I’m now proud that my first photo has found a place in her gallery.
May this and all the others bring a smile to the faces of patients and hospital staff and temporarily ease the illness.”

I’ve had the luxury of being able to take beautiful pictures across all different terrains throughout the world, and I am so excited for this opportunity to share them as a vital part of the foundation’s mission.

Here is one of my first contributions to the foundation, which was taken at Saranac Lake in Upstate New York. Being from Syracuse as well, I’ve ventured to many stunning Upstate locations like this one. This was taken right after an intense rainstorm, and I thought it was a special and comforting capture of a bold rainbow. I am honored to contribute to such a meaningful cause!”
