Art in Medicine Symposium

Art in Medicine Symposium

Ava Lawson, Intern, comments, “Recently, we had the opportunity to attend and exhibit some of our photos at the symposium hosted by the nonprofit organization Art in Medicine (AiM) in Florence, Italy. At the symposium it was discussed how art can impact not only patients but also physicians. Observing art allows for physicians to develop enhanced observational skills, improve physician socialization, and reduce burnout. Observing art also increases wellbeing. It was mentioned that training the eyes trains the soul as art leads to revelations and healing within oneself, and it helps us stay present within life and especially during uncertainty. By allowing us to share some of our photo art, we gave an example of how impactful it is to have art in our spaces, especially hospitals. Our photo art livened up the space, creating a more positive environment that brought joy and sparked conversation.”
